The site-specific project, ‘Pět cest / Five Ways’, offers a collection of perspectives on Vltavská’s past, present and future, that emerge as stories are told along five pathways around the area of Vltavská - to be explored by visitors. This format aims to offer an experience promoting the viewer’s active engagement with Vltavská in order to enhance the awareness towards this heterogenous place.
Sensitive to the site’s appearance, the ‘exhibition’ consists of a visual and auditory part; displayed as five posters, illustrating the topic and functioning as a title page, which advertises the interconnected audio walk. Immaterially mapped across the site, the 10-20 minute audio walks introduce five site specific, partially overlapping topics: (1) ‘UNDER BUBNY’ architecture, urbanism, infrastructure, (2) 'OUR VLTAVSKÁ’ social communities, (3) ‘ONCE SOMEBODY TOLD ME... ‘ myths, urban legends, (4) ‘THE RIVER’S REFLECTIONS’ art works and (5) ‘TOPOLOGY OF A DAYDREAM‘ atmospheres and their associations.
Through the practice of scientific and artistic research, ‘Five Ways’ aims to create an archive, showcasing Vltavská itself - as a place that will supposedly vanish soon. Covering a range of topics - each realised by artists with relevant practice - the project is based on observations, research and interviews with a diversity of contemporary witnesses to Vltavská’s changing landscape.
‘Five Ways’ was realised by ASOCIACE PROSTORU in collaboration with Anna Hokešová (sound design) displaying posters and audio walks by Nicolas Prokop & Hugo Chemlař, Jack Laing Aiken & Isabell Alexandra Meldner, Jan Vagaday & Michal Papež, Františka Malasková and Robin Vincent Štěpánků.
The installation in the new temporary gallery is managed by the Prague City Gallery and has been supported through the program Art for the City in cooperation with the Prague Public Transit Company.
